I previously made a suggestion thread in the discord titled "Revert the Reclaim Vault", and since then, soul scrolls have been introduced to factions. Soul scrolls do not solve the fundamental problems with the reclaim vault. They reduce one consequence of the new system, which is losing your seasonal items from deaths, without addressing that the new system made that loss permanent to begin with.

As stated before, I think a much better solution to this problem would be to make it so seasonals largely function the way they were before on factions. At the start of each map, you have access to all your reclaims like usual. If you reclaim them and die with them throughout the map, you've lost them for now, but will have them again next map. Furthermore, the option to engage in permanent trades should be added so that players can continue to enjoy trading gear.

A point brought up as a rebuttal to my previous post is that it wouldn't be fair to revert the system since players have already engaged in reclaim trades, so reverting would not be possible at this stage. These players engaged in trades knowing they were permanent. If the system were made as I suggested in the previous paragraph, those players would keep their trades since they made them willingly under the new system. It would be the equivalent of them having made the newly proposed permanent trades.

Like before, I think it's best to just give a rapid fire list of reasons the soul scrolls don't solve the reclaim vault problem. I'll provide my reasoning for each point, but will try to keep things shorter than my discord thread was.

Soul scrolls treat a symptom, not the actual problem

Under the old system, dying meant losing only the copy from that season. Under the new system, even with soul scrolls, dying means potentially losing things you've had for years if you choose to use them. A soul scroll prevents that from happening once. It still doesn't restore the ownership model these items were sold under.

A lifetime item shouldn't require consumables to use

Soul scrolls basically just add a consumable layer of protection. If you die with soul scrolls equipped on your armor, you're now in the same position as before. A full loadout of reclaimable armor, tools, etc. could easily require 10+ soul scrolls to protect from just one single death.

Dying once puts you right back in the same situation as before

Say you spend hours building a gset with maxed out custom enchants and soul scroll every seasonal piece, weapon, and tool. You die once during a raid or base defense and keep your gear, but now all that protection is gone. Do you go back to the fight in that same gear now, risking losing it all? Soul scrolls basically function as safer totems of undying, just for gear. Once you use it, you're put in the same position as before with not being able to safely use your reclaimable gear without risking permanent loss.

Soul scrolls make kills far less rewarding

There's also the opposite side of the situation in the previous bullet. If I see someone fighting in seasonal gear, I might take a riskier fight because killing them could mean getting that gear. Now I can take that risk, manage to kill them, and get essentially nothing because every valuable item they had in their inventory was soul scrolled. Pvp is supposed to have risk and reward, and soul scrolls ruin the reward in trying to fix the excessive risk.

Soul scrolls aren't realistically obtainable in the quantities needed

At its core, factions is a gamemode built around volatility. You die, lose sets, throw more gear on, raid, defend, and sometimes burn through multiple sets in one go. A solution that requires another batch of rare consumables after every death doesn't fit that gameplay loop, and thus doesn't solve the problem every single factions player is facing.

The original proposed solution still solves all of this

The actual solution to the reclaim problem is still to restore the lifetime reclaim system and make permanent reclaim transfers optional. Let players choose between trading during the season or permanently transferring reclaim ownership so they can actually start using their reclaimable gear again.

I think at the end of the day, factions players just want to be able to use the gear they've collected over years again without worrying about whether they will lose it forever.

Management, please consider these points. As an ex-admin, LC veteran, and loyal supporter of the server for over a decade, I just want factions to function as it should and for players to be happy with the gear they've purchased. Thanks for reading!

Soul scrolls can never be properly balanced. They are either too hard to obtain in the quantities needed, or they become TOO available and it's basically playing factions with keep inventory enabled.
