As we know, pickaxe skins can be obtained exclusively from the monthly crate.
You need to decide whether to sell such a dropped skin or a used one.
You cannot get pickaxe skins from previous seasons.
It is very important to note that once a skin is used, it cannot be traded or dropped on the ground in any way.
So, my idea is to add a way to unlock skins using Lemons, since the skin is purely cosmetic and cannot be traded later.
Old pickaxe skins should be very expensive for example, 200 lemons with the price dropping as newer models are released.
Obviusly, this suggestion applies only to Prison, since on other modes you can obtain old items if you find the item's owner.
I think the more logical thing is to just add a way to unredeem a skin, or add a skin directly on to /ah to sell. This way it'd stay in line with the other monthly items with limited numbers instead of just being able to get any skin you want as it ruins the value of sets pretty quickly
I am definitely in favor of having the option to resell skins.
But i don't agree with your opinion on "ruins the value of sets pretty quickly" because if they don't add a resale option the value of the skins will remain the same.
You'll just see people with those skins more often because, as i mentioned, there's no way to trade them, and not everyone can afford to buy a pickaxe skin for, say, 100 lemons.
I don't mean value in terms of monetary value, but more so as in status. If everyone just has the ability to buy any old skin it loses the rarity value of being 1 in x that it is now. I get it's just a cosmetic for the pick but at that point might as well just let people buy any set piece from previous crates for a price if they already have that piece from another set, since the only thing that changes between them is the cosmetic not enchants.
"Old pickaxe skins should be very expensive for example, 200 lemons with the price dropping as newer models are released."
But how low does that price go? Do new skins just become essentially free after enough time? While time since release plays a part in monthly set monetary values, the main factor is how many of them are in circulation, especially with the new reclaim change that'll come to Prison on reset. So shouldn't the skins then dynamically change price with how many people own each skin to match this as they are a monthly item after all?
Are pickaxe skins just removed from the crate entirely since you can buy them anyway? If they're also still in crates the price for the guaranteed skin would have to stay quite above the key prices since it is guaranteed and could very well cause people to up the prices of the redeemable skins too. If it's removed from the crate because it's buyable then I think they'd lose some revenue from keys as the skin is one of the main "pieces" to go for in the set on Prison, so the cost to buy any skin would have to be marked up just to account for that, which can make it harder (not saying impossible) for newer or f2p players to get a hold of any of them.
I can empathise with wanting to be able to get older skins easier, but just being able to buy them for a price seems like it has too many drawbacks to be a realistic option. It feels like the hoops you have to go through to make it realistic just makes the pickaxe skins too far removed and behave completely differently to the rest of their set items. Adding a way to transfer skins keeps them in line with how other monthly pieces work, and honestly fits in really well with how the reclaim vault works and makes sense to add now as opposed to previous seasons when the reclaimability of an item didn't transfer which is likely why pickaxe skins aren't currently sellable.
Not a fan of just buying a skin, but the idea of being able to sell currently owned skins yes.
Being able to just buy any skin regardless of its ownership losing rarity as Zac stated, whereas other gamemodes you need to be find a seller who is then happy to sell.
